Survey Data
Environmental Survey Directory
When considering the biodiversity of Sussex, the first question is, “who has looked at what in the counties?” In 1990, the Sussex Environmental Survey Directory (ESD) was created to answer just this question. Twelve years later it is still going strong.
Updated each week as the Record Centre is made aware of new surveys, the ESD is a database that holds information on surveys that have been carried out and the sites they cover. At present, the database holds data on over 2,000 surveys, which cover more than 20,000 sites in Sussex.
ESD reports are a standard part of any Record Centre enquiry, and are obtained by specifying the kilometre squares that the enquiry covers. The report produced states the title of the survey, who carried it out, when it was carried out, the name of the site(s) that it covers, a summary of the survey methodology and findings, and where a copy of the survey can be found.
